Innovation Hub Website Redesign

Innovation hub is a partly government, partly business-funded organisation which consists of a physical office park which hosts various businesses. These businesses specialise in science innovation, engineering, IT, business incubation, R&D etc.

The designs shown below was part of a pitch to redesign their website.
Unfortunately the designs weren't chosen by the respective client.

The focus was to create designs that would be highly visual, mainly because their old site was very text heavy and didn't portray the amazing initiatives that they were involved in to the best of it's ability.
It was also important to show that they are pushing the forefront of the sciences/engineering in South Africa. For this we introduced flat clean and friendly vector styles accompanied with vivid imagery.
They had an immense amount of content published quite regularly but was not categorised properly throughout the site, so the user was never sure how exactly it fit into the broad spectrum of things. We solved this by using color coordination for all the different types of content, so that if an article did not have any imagery associated it would fall back to a color along with the category's icon.
With option 2 we wanted to offer the client a more toned down version of option 01, seeing that corporates can be quite scared of color. We kept it dynamic by introducing an interesting background image, but removed the color coordination.
Option 03 was a condensed 'safer' option that had much less color, and less content to simplify the user experience.
